Bible Verses That Freak Me Out #15 - "Perfect love casts out fear" - 1 John 4:18-19

"There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfect in love. We love because He first loved us." - 1 John 4:18-19

This part freaks me out with its staggering beauty. Have you had the realization that lurking behind your anger is often fear? Fear of rejection, or disapproval, or loss?

The very next verse freaks me out with a challenge:
"If someone says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen." - I John 4:20

Beloved - let us love one another.

Beloved - what a great old word, don't you think? It's a shame we don't use it very often anymore. The NIV's "Dear friends" just doesn't cut it. Beloved - we are loved - which is why we can now love one another.
