Had an interesting experience Saturday. The three little girls next door came over to help make cookies. They are age 9, 7, and 5 - all very precocious and full of energy.
We've had some good times in the past. A year or so ago we found a very cute puppy in the front yard right before we were leaving for church. We put him in the little tiled area off the kitchen and headed for church, intent on finding the owner when we got back. When we returned, there was a note attached to the door:
"Daer Jenney,
That is are dog
Love, (the seven-year old)"
"Are dog" was later named "Coach Jack Bolton" by the girls. Coach Jack Bolton is the name of the father of Zach Efron's character in "High School Musical." Coach Jack Bolton may be the best name for a dog ever.
A few weeks back we got a handmade card in the mailbox:
"Happy Birthday -
Happy Birthday - Yuove been invite to Coach Jack Bolton's birthday August 23d 10:00-12:00 - Dog Birthday"
Unfortunately, we were not able to attend Dog Birthday, but it's always nice to be invited to things, and we sent over some dog biscuits as a gift.
Anyway, yesterday Jeni invited the girls over to help make Oreo truffles, which are ground up Oreos mixed with cream cheese, rolled into balls, and dipped in melted chocolate.
Observations:
* Excited little girls only have one volume.
* A pattern: Chocolate covered fingers must be licked. Licked fingers must be washed before touching new cookies. Cookies dipped in chocolate = chocolate covered fingers. Chocolate covered fingers must be licked. Repeat.
My favorite moment was when the oldest asked, "Are we having fun?" It wasn't one of those times when people are asking to lead you into saying you personally are having fun - she honestly wanted to know if she was having fun. "Yes. Yes you are," I said.
Anyway, the cookies were delicious, the girls were very happy to help, and it was a blast to see my wife wrangle small children with a cute apron on.
